The client approached D4P with a need of additional space to suit their growing family. The aspiration was for an additional children’s bedroom together with an office space. This apartment is in a subdivided 20th century Victorian semi-detached house with a huge mature garden. After analysing the existing layout of the apartment, it was determined that the new bedroom would be better situated within a modest rear extension. The winter garden provides natural light to the existing and new bedrooms together with the living room. This layout creates a dynamic flow between living spaces and the rear garden. The new offices space is situated at the end of the garden as a standalone structure. This prefabricated building was designed around the root protections zones of the mature trees all of which are retained.
