Given the dense urban nature of London, outdoor amenity spaces are increasingly becoming rare. At the same time new high-rise buildings are being built which means that there is an increasing amount of space on the roofs of these buildings. A few buildings are designed with green roofs to increase bio-diversity of the local area, and whilst these measures are excellent from a sustainability aspect, more needs to be done to re-discover the rural outdoors.
In a recent project in the New Kings Road, D4P designed a green roof space which was accessible as well as providing the sustainability benefits. Working closely with the client and their management team, we created terraces which could be used by residents as either an outdoor amenity space or a productive landscape where the residents have access to garden allotments. These versatile roof terraces promote a healthier lifestyle whilst enhancing the well-being of the local residents.
If you are considering a green roof for your next project please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’d be happy to share our experience with you.
